Tenerife: Quad Adventure Tour in Teide National Park

About This Experience

This is the longest quad route on the island's south side and the one most people mean when they say "the Teide quad tour". You climb roughly 56 miles round trip from the resort strip at Playa de las Américas to Boca Tauce, deep inside Teide National Park, gaining about 2,400 metres of altitude on the way up.

The road does the storytelling. You leave the coast through Arona and La Escalona, cross the pine belt where the air suddenly smells of resin, and break above the tree line into the caldera — a floor of grey and rust lava with the cone of Teide standing over it. There is a stop in Vilaflor, the highest village on Tenerife at 1,400 metres, for a walk or a coffee, and a second stop at the Boca Tauce viewpoint with the volcano straight ahead.

The whole route is on asphalt. That is not the operator cutting corners — the national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and off-road riding inside it is prohibited, so every legal quad tour that enters the park is a paved mountain drive. What you are buying is the ascent, the viewpoints and an engine you steer yourself, not dirt tracks.

Quads are ridden single or double at the same price per machine, so two people sharing one quad is the cheapest way to do this route. Pick-up and drop-off from the main southern resorts is included, which matters more than it sounds: the meeting point is a long way from most hotels and there is nowhere convenient to park.
