About This Experience

Chío sits on the western approach road, which means this tour starts much closer to the park boundary than the coastal departures do — less time on the transfer, more time at altitude.

Four departure slots run through the day, at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00, plus a 19:00 sunset ride. The sunset slot is the one worth planning around: the western flank of the mountain is where the light lands last, and the viewpoints on this route face straight into it.

The route is a paved mountain circuit with stops chosen for the views across the island rather than for difficulty. Riders get a safety briefing and a demonstration before setting off, and thermal jackets, gloves and full-face helmets are handed out — a detail that matters on a 19:00 departure, when the temperature at 2,000 metres drops fast after the sun goes.

A quad carries one rider or two for the same price, and there is a snack and a drink at the final stop. If the passenger also wants a turn at the handlebars, there is a small second-driver fee payable on the day.

• Closed-toe shoes are compulsory
