No. Every quad tour that actually enters Teide National Park runs on tarmac from start to finish, and no operator can legally offer you anything else inside the boundary. If the dust-throwing photo in a listing is the reason you are booking, you need a different route — one that stays outside the park. Both exist, they cost about the same, and almost nobody explains the difference before you have paid.

What the rule actually says
Spain’s national parks authority publishes the visiting rules for Teide, and one of the listed infractions is circular con vehículos fuera de las carreteras y pistas abiertas al público — driving vehicles off the roads and tracks open to the public. It is not qualified by vehicle type. Quads, buggies, enduro bikes, 4x4s and hire cars are all covered by the same sentence, and the published rules name no exemption for guided or commercial operators.
The reason is the Cañadas ecosystem, which is fragile, slow to recover and internationally protected: the park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. Access by the unpaved tracks that cross the park is separately restricted to emergency, surveillance and management use.
This is enforced, not theoretical. In August 2022 the Canary Islands police sanctioned six active-tourism companies for running quads in the park without the required permits.
So what are you actually buying?
A mountain ascent on a machine you steer yourself, which is a better product than the marketing suggests. From the southern resorts you climb around 2,400 metres from sea level; from the mid-mountain departures you start high and spend more of the ride at altitude. Either way you cross four distinct landscapes in a few hours — resort coast, terraced farmland, Canary pine forest, then bare lava — and stop at viewpoints a coach cannot park at.
What you do not get is a dirt track. One operator states it plainly in its own conditions: this is an on-road quad tour — off-road riding is prohibited by UNESCO regulations within Teide National Park. Another says the route is done entirely on asphalt because of the level of environmental protection in the areas it visits. Those are the honest listings. Read the rest carefully and you will notice that the ones showing dust never actually claim the dust is inside the park.
Where the real off-road riding is

The critical word is or. The operator’s own exclusions list spells it out: off-road driving is not available on the Teide route. You pick one.
If riding is what you are after, take the North route and accept that you will not reach the caldera that morning. If the volcano is the point, take the Teide route — or any of the five other tours on this site — and enjoy the road, which is one of the great mountain drives in Europe and considerably more fun on a quad than in a hire car.
The other restrictions worth knowing about
The park is not a fixed environment, and access changes more often than visitors expect.
- Snow and ice close the access roads several times most winters. The TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38 have all been shut precautionarily in recent seasons.
- High fire-risk alerts in summer bring preventive measures that have included prohibiting recreational motor vehicle use on forest tracks.
- Major events bring traffic control. Access to the park was regulated overnight for the Perseid meteor shower and the August 2026 solar eclipse, with control points at La Orotava, La Esperanza, Chío and Vilaflor.
- Emergency measures have gone further. After the August 2025 fires and Storm Emilia, the Cabildo imposed restrictions on recreational vehicles including quads and buggies, and closed the TF-21 between El Portillo Alto and the cable car.
None of that stops tours running in normal conditions, but it is the reason every tour on this site carries free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and the reason a good operator will re-route or refund rather than push on.
